Taylor Music Festival Participants Congratulations to the students who performed at the Taylor Music Festival held over the weekend of 15-17 May. Apart from entertaining their audience and gaining much from the supportive atmosphere created by the organisers, most students came away with a First, Second, Third ribbon, or a Highly Commended Certificate. All students receive a Participation Certificate. Akexander Unikowski was awarded the June Hemmingsen encouragement award of $100.00 to spend at Davis-Wheeler Music. The award was established to honour June's significant contribution to the establishment of the Taylor Music Festival, and to encourage and grow the Digital Piano/Keyboard sections. Alexander played & sang his own composition 'Jazz Man' in the recently created section of combined singing & playing. All backing tracks were written & recorded live by Alexander on the magnificent Yamaha Clavinova CVP. Teacher Jill Bellchambers.
Talented Students In the recent round of examinations many students excelled and all did very well. Of particular note was the achievement by Rebecca Temby in gaining Honours in her Grade 7 Modern Piano examination through the ANZCA examining body. Rebecca is 15.
Another of our students (of mature age, who would prefer to remain anonymous) achieved Honours level & gained her AMEB Singing for Leisure Performance Certificate. This delightful lady performs frequently in local theatre productions around Canberra as well as at weddings and other special events.
Two other significant events took place in July- firstly teacher Michelle Klemke (Voice) celebrated her 16th year at BMS & a student of hers (who prefers to remain anonymous) celebrated her 10th anniversary as a student. Michelle wrote the following about this student's achievements over the 11 year period.....
"To put these achievements into perspective...
Kate (not her real name) has had approximately 450 individual singing lessons; over 129 choir lessons and has sung in approximately 35 concerts as either a soloist, part of a duet or trio or as a soloist/soprano in Bellchambers Music School's choir, Vocal Point. Kate has recorded classical, country, music theatre and modern solos, duets,
trios and quartets and sung solo and soprano on all 5 Vocal Point CDs. Kate has learnt to sing and perform in the singing styles of classical, jazz, popular, music theatre and country and can now sing in 5 different languages (English, French, Latin, German and Italian). She is also one of only 3 founding members of Vocal Point Ensemble."
Hearty congratulations to 'Kate' and to Michelle who is such a talented teacher - there are not too many teachers who can teach such a wide range of genres - and all authentically.
